I started my day off right, today.
First, I watched this:
Then, I thought long and hard about how much time I spend motivating myself.
You know what? I don’t do it enough.
Here’s the bottom line: No one else is going to do it for me.
Only I am aware of when I need motivation AND the choice to make it happen.
No one else is going to pump me up consistently other than… me.
I have some great people in my life.
My husband is incredible and my biggest fan. I have family members who love me and support me. I also have some wonderful friends who have watched me grow over the years as I’ve pursued the entrepreneurial life.
But, as amazing as they all are, they don’t realize how often I need to be motivated. Or when.
So I’ll be including in my daily searches for marketing inspiration, a search for motivation.
Feeding the dream.
Your dream needs to be fed every day. It needs good, solid food. Not a few short social media updates from someone famous.
Your dream needs a constant diet from a variety of sources.
Books. Movies. Newspaper stories. High-quality conversations. Videos. Podcasts.
The dream needs to be fed.
Good stuff, too. Not fluff.
Take what you can from those who also have already pursued their dream and may be a few levels above you. You’ll learn from them.
As someone wise said, “Success leaves clues.”
Today I’ve been thinking about resilience and persistence.
If you’re trying to follow your dream, whatever it might be, you probably have already hit some roadblocks and obstacles.
That’s perfectly normal. That’s what is involved when you follow your dream.
You have to push forward…. fight for it… slay the dragons and then level up.
You have to keep going after it over and over and over again.
You have to keep trying over and over and over again.
You can’t give up.
Because… repetition leads to mastery.
Think about it.
The great athletes don’t just take a few shots at winning the Olympic gold. They dedicate their entire lives to it.
An accomplished musician doesn’t just spend a few hours a week practicing the piano. She plays for hours each day.
A surgeon doesn’t just take a few classes to learn the ropes. He commits to a grueling schedule for years in order to master his skill set.
Think about this: Today is another opportunity to master YOUR skill.
Doing so each day will create momentum and improvement.
My goal?
To be better today than my best yesterday.
I did a quick video this morning about it:
Today, go after your dream hard.
Then do it again tomorrow. And the next day… and the next. The cumulative effect will change you, I promise.
