And it has.

The music industry was the first to feel the hit. Napster allowed people to share their music. And record labels scrambled to protect their assets.

But it was too late. The Napster Cat was out of the bag.

The expectation of “free music” online was born.

Next was the publishing industry. Who needed New York when you could quickly self-publish your work? Not to mention promote it quickly and easily online.

The editors in those tall office buildings were quietly sobbing into their expensive cappuccinos.

The game had just entered a new level.

And so it goes.

The Internet turned every industry on its head.

And marketing is no different.

You used to have to hire people like a publicist, a graphic designer and an ad agency to get your message out there. Only the pros knew their way around expensive media buys (this is still mostly true).

Now you can pull out your iPhone and record something live with Periscope or Facebook Live and have it instantly seen by thousands if not hundreds of thousands.

So why am I telling you all this?
