Tuesday night is tofu night, and I’m asking myself, “Who here decided
that everyone likes tofu in the first place, and what is tofu anyway?”
And why can’t I have bacon? I don’t know. I just… I wanna know
answers and I… and I wish that there was more.
– Lincoln Six-Echo, “The Island”
Ever feel like Lincoln?
No, not that bacon part (although it’s a very good point).
The “I wish there was more” part.
If you’ve not seen the 2005 film, “The Island,” you should. There’s a goldmine of marketing lessons in it.
It’s about the power of belief. The desire to live (literally), and the knowing that there’s something more “out there.”
And you know what sets the film’s story into motion?
Dissatisfaction.
The above quote is said at the beginning of the film. You can feel Lincoln’s frustration.
He’s living in a prison. No matter how modern and advanced the technology may be in his environment, he really doesn’t have any freedom.
But it’s his dissatisfaction that paves the way for his curiosity to start percolating.
I’m looking for dissatisfied people. You might be one of them.
Here’s a quick set of questions that will let you know:
- You’re in a job that doesn’t allow you to fully use your talents, skills and gifts.
- You’re an entrepreneur who still hasn’t found traction.
- Other people who don’t have as much experience as you are knocking it out of the park. It kind of ticks you off.
- You believe you’re capable of more but not sure how to get there.
- You know that to get from point A to point B will require change, an investment of your resources, and you’re willing to do it.
If that sounds like you, perfect. You’re my people.
But if that doesn’t sound like you…
If you’re happy and content with your place in life, then to be honest, I can’t do much for you.
I pay close attention to who comes and goes on my list. I check your website if you have one. I read some of your posts if you have a blog.
I’m looking for the “holes” in your marketing. Areas where I can help.
And I’m checking to see if you really want to make a dent in the universe.
I want to find people who want to make a difference in their world and who understand this immutable truth:
You’ve been given a very unique set of tools. No one else has the combination of these tools like you do.
And if you really want to make a difference, if you want to sharpen your tools and master them so they’ll help people, it will require risk and change.
I’m not looking for a safe place. And if you’re like me, neither are you.
You understand the world is changing fast. Marketing is changing fast.
And to keep up (and push yourself to the limit), you need to surround yourself with people who are already doing that.
I do hope I’m one of those people. But if anything I’ve said here makes you feel uncomfortable… then I wish you well.
Need to figure out what’s holding you back with your marketing now?
Schedule a quick marketing chat with me and we’ll figure it out.
