Thought Leadership Book Strategist

Helping Business Leaders Turn What They Know Into What They’re Known For

A business book should do more than sit on a shelf.

It should clarify what you believe. Distinguish you from competitors. Establish your authority. Open conversations. Attract opportunities. And, ideally, become an intellectual property asset that continues working for your business long after publication.

That’s where I come in.

I’m a Thought Leadership Book Strategist who helps founders, CEOs, consultants, experts, and other experienced professionals develop books around the ideas, expertise, and intellectual property they have spent years building.

Sometimes that means helping someone decide what book they should write before a manuscript ever begins.

Sometimes it means evaluating a manuscript that isn’t working and identifying what needs to change.

And sometimes it means helping an author determine how an existing book can become a more powerful part of the business behind it.

In each case, I look beyond the manuscript itself.

I look at the strategy behind the book.

A Book Is More Than a Writing Project

One of the biggest mistakes business authors make is starting with:

“I want to write a book.”

The better question is:

“What do I want this book to accomplish?”

A thought leadership book sits at the intersection of your expertise, your ideas, your audience, your positioning, and your business goals.

That means decisions about the book’s thesis, reader, structure, stories, intellectual property, and positioning shouldn’t be made in isolation.

They need to work together.

My approach brings together book strategy, business strategy, messaging, positioning, and decades of writing and marketing experience to help authors create books with a larger purpose.

It is also the thinking behind my Book-to-Business Ecosystem™—an approach that looks at how a book can connect with speaking, consulting, media, lead generation, content, partnerships, and other opportunities surrounding the author’s business.

The goal isn’t simply to help you produce more pages.

It is to help you make better decisions about the book those pages are becoming.

Strategy Informed by Years of Business Experience

Before focusing my work on thought leadership books, I spent years helping businesses communicate what made them valuable.

I’ve written copy and marketing content for companies ranging from entrepreneurial small businesses to nationally recognized brands.

My client work has included Tripwire, the cybersecurity company acquired by Belden for $710 million; Cylance, the AI-based cybersecurity company acquired by BlackBerry for $1.4 billion; Trainz, a national leader in collectible trains; My Patriot Supply; The Healthy Back Institute; SmallBizLady; and dozens of midsize companies and small businesses.

I also wrote the winning small-business entry for the Better Business Bureau Torch Award for Ethics, which generated both local and national publicity for a Columbus cybersecurity company.

That background matters when working with business authors.

I don’t approach a book only as a writer.

I understand positioning, messaging, and marketing.

I understand how expertise becomes intellectual property—and how intellectual property can become a business asset.

Those perspectives allow me to ask questions that go far beyond, “What should Chapter Three say?”

I’ve Been on the Author’s Side
of the Desk, Too

I am the author of The Maverick Advisor: The New Rules of Marketing for Financial Advisors and Consultants—Get Great Clients, More Respect, and the Fees You Deserve.

I am also co-author of Get Happy, Write Away and The BOOK It! Workbook, which grew from my “BOOK It!” book-writing program.

My other published work includes eBooks and educational materials covering copywriting, content marketing, email marketing, and business communication.

I understand both sides of the process: helping another person articulate their ideas and facing the blank page with my own name eventually going on the cover.

Speaking, Media, and Professional Background

I have appeared on 610 WTVN and WTTE FOX28, and my insights have been featured in The Columbus Dispatch and The Barefoot Writer.

I have spoken for organizations and professional audiences, including the Ohio Society of CPAs annual conference and CPA Marketing Genius, and I have been interviewed on numerous business, marketing, writing, and entrepreneurship podcasts.

I hold a B.A. in Communication Arts from the University of Cincinnati and have studied graphic design at the University of Dayton.

My background also includes membership in the National Speakers Association and Toastmasters, along with extensive professional study in copywriting, marketing, writing, and publishing.

All of those experiences ultimately converge in the work I do today:

Helping experienced people recognize the value of what they know—and shape that knowledge into a book with the power to take their ideas further.

Beyond the Books

When I’m not thinking about books, ideas, positioning, or the way one perfectly chosen sentence can change everything, I enjoy exploring nature with my husband, Mickey, usually with my Pentax DSLR KP nearby.

I am also a Young Catholic Professionals’ mentor and enjoy encouraging Catholic professionals to follow St. Benedict’s admonition: Ora et Labora. Pray and work.

Creativity has always been a common thread in my life—whether I’m shaping a business idea, helping an author uncover the real book hidden inside their expertise, or trying to capture the perfect landscape through a camera lens. Soli Deo gloria.
