Keep your focus with your marketing.

One of my favorite Star Wars films is “The Empire Strikes Back.”

It’s full of good fight scenes, especially the one that takes place in Cloud City.

During that scene, Luke Skywalker is valiantly battling Darth “Your Destiny Lies With Me” Vader.

Suddenly, Darth pulls a clever move on Luke by disconnecting major pieces of machinery from the Tunnel and Reactor Control Room.

Instead of paying attention to his real enemy, Luke swung wildly at the attacking hunks of metal that were slamming into his body.

Ever feel like that as a marketer?

You think you’ve got a handle on what you’re supposed to be focusing on…

…then suddenly something comes along to distract you.

And instead of bearing down on your original mission, you find yourself swatting at minor stuff.

As this week gets started, I have a simple strategy to apply when you go off track..

Two questions.

1) Why is this taking up my time (and focus)?

and

2) Is focusing on this bringing me closer to my goal?

There are a TON of distractions out there. Those generated by The Dark Side are only there to distract you from what’s really important.

To get you off your game.

So weave, bob, and dodge these side issues as best you can.

Write down exactly what you need to focus on for today and the rest of the week.

Then be ready with your light saber.

Because you’ve got a battle to win. ;-)
